That dog has put on weight again.

My dog Clifford has put on weight again. And how did it happen? I’ve no idea.

Maybe he’s getting fed twice? Sometimes one family member doesn’t realise that another family member has already fed the dog. So he gets twice the food.

And because the dog always leaps around when you arrive in the house, you think he hasn’t been fed.

But actually he’s doing his artful ‘I probably haven’t really been fed’ routine.

Anyway, I have the perfect solution to getting his weight down again.

I use an acrylic pint drinking glass to scoop his food. And I’ve tended to fill the glass to the top. Now I’m filling it only to the second lip. That means he gets less food every day. Or in other words, the right amount of food.

It reminds me that we fill whatever scoop we’re using to the very top, to give the dog the maximum enjoyment.

So if your dog is putting on weight, look at the quantity he gets. Here are two options for your scoop (it applies mainly to dry food):

1. Use a smaller scoop

2. If using the same scoop, fill it to a lower level. Use a piece of sticky tape to mark the required limit.
