Here’s a test for your dog. Take a kibble (i.e. dry dog food nugget) and a Brazil nut. Feed each to your dog in turn. My dog takes around one second to eat the kibble and ten times longer to eat the Brazil nut.
I’m not quite sure why it should take a dog so long to eat it. And does the same apply to other nuts? More investigation is needed! ‘Good’, says my dog!
I’m not saying that we should feed our dogs a Brazil nut diet. And nuts have a a high phosporus content which can lead to bladder stones.
It’s just interesting to see how they can’t easily swallow the Brazil nut. And taking longer to chew your food must give the dog some added enjoyment? Who knows.
I looked up Brazil nuts for dogs on the internet. Unlike salted nuts which are bad for your dog, brazil nuts seem harmless.
Brazil nuts reputedly prevent cancer, according to SeeSpotLiveLonger at http://www.seespotlivelonger.com/articles/brazil-nuts.html.
It’s the selenium, apparently.
